Procurement salaries at a glance

Salaries.jpgProcurement professionals in Gauteng earned higher annual incomes compared with professionals in other provinces and Southern African countries in 2011, CIPS and Ernst & Young have noted in their first survey of Southern African supply chain professionals’ salaries.

Furthermore, specialist skills such as commodity expertise and business analytics do result in higher remuneration.

  • Utilities, mining and manufacturing appear to pay procurement professionals higher salaries.
  • Mining, utilities and support services received more substantial bonuses in 2011.
  • 79% of professionals aged 30 – 55 indicated they would change jobs for promotion or to advance their careers. Those aged 22 – 27 would change jobs for better remuneration and exposure to training and skills development.
  • Of the 679 respondents, 5% earned more than R1-million, increasing to 37% earning less than R250 000.
  • Gauteng and Botswana enjoyed the greatest representation in the survey, with more than 350 and 100 respondents respectively participating.
