Happy birthday to the Sustainable Procurement Pledge!

Sustainable Procurement Pledge

SmartProcurementWorld congratulates the Sustainable Procurement Pledge (SPP) on its third birthday this month, and on the substantial impact it has made on the industry in its short existence.

SPP is an international bottom-up and non-profit organisation for procurement practitioners, academics and professionals, creating and growing knowledge on responsible sourcing practices and empowering people in procurement.

Since its ignition in October 2019, it has introduced numerous initiatives, including the World Sustainable Procurement Day, 15 topic, industry, and country-specific Chapters, the launch of the SPP League of Champions, and the appointment of its first Executive Director, who will shape SPP’s future agenda from the beginning of November.

SPP’s stated purpose is to build a sustainable future for people and our planet, and its vision, that all supply chains across the world have embedded sustainable and responsible procurement practices by 2030.

To mark SPP’s birthday, it is launching a social media challenge called #3forSPP, providing three engagement opportunities to accelerate the impact on sustainable and responsible procurement practices – and with a special gift for three SPP Ambassadors.

Thanks to SPP’s ally, the JARO Institute, who generously donated three prizes of Sustainable Procurement Professional eLearning courses (without certificate), committed SPP Ambassadors have the opportunity to each win a training programme by sharing the reason why they should be the chosen ones.

Bertrand ConquéretCo-founder of SPP, Bertrand Conquéret, is President of Henkel’s Global Supply Chain B.V. and Global Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) of Henkel AG & Co. KGaA. In May 2019 he was elected President of the Together for Sustainability initiative with 31 member companies who are jointly driving the improvement of sustainability performances in the chemical supply chains worldwide.

Bertrand co-founded the SPP out of passion and driven by a shared sense of responsibility. Because of the impact of procurement decisions on the future of a sustainable planet, individuals can pledge and commit themselves to the Sustainable Procurement Pledge contents to make sustainability the central mindset of their daily decision making.

Thomas UdesenThomas Udesen is Chief Procurement Officer at Bayer and Co-Founder of the SPP. being a firm believer that our prime responsibility is to leave our home, our ONE planet, in the same condition as it was entrusted to us. Procurement is mission critical to ensure Sustainable Supply Chains, so he believes we must all be sure that we leave the right legacy.
